Washington Long Term Care Worker Training Kit Info:

The Washington Long Term Care Worker Training is specifically designed to help administrators, managers, and/or department heads provide the staff training required by: WAC 388-112 which requires that the following individuals complete basic training requirements:

Adult Family Homes
  • Adult family home applicants must complete basic training and become certified before the adult family home is licensed.
  • Adult family home entity representatives and resident managers before assuming the duties of the position in the adult family home.
  • Long-term care workers in adult family homes within one hundred twenty days of date of hire. Until basic training has been completed, long-term care workers may not provide personal care without direct s supervision.


Assisted Living Facilities
  • Assisted living facility administrators (or their designees), except administrators with a current nursing home administrator license, within one hundred twenty days of date of hire.
  • Long-term care workers within one hundred twenty days of their date of hire. Until completion of the basic training, long-term care workers may not provide personal care without direct supervision.
  • For certification requirements for individuals in subsections (2) through (5) refer to WAC 388-112-0106.


Before using this training kit you must:
  • Obtain approval as a "Training Program" from DSHS.
  • Have your instructors approved by DSHS as part of the Training Program approval process.
  • Instructors who will teach the Dementia and Mental Health specialty training sections of the curriculum MUST send in DSHS training certificates for Managers of Dementia and Mental Health Specialty in order to be approved to teach this material for specialty credit. Otherwise the Dementia training will be considered ONLY for Aging and Older Adult Population Specific Training and will not receive Specialty Training Credit.
  • It is important to understand that an Assisted Living (formally known as Boarding Home)/Adult Family Home will be out of compliance with DSHS if you do not obtain approval as a Training Program and have your instructors approved. There is more information about the approval process, including instructions and forms, in the Instructor Guide.
