As a Home Health Aide you must be able to complete certain tasks. These are skills you will use on a regular basis in your job, and skills you’ll need to perform confidently.
You must learn and be evaluated in the following skills:
- Communication skills
- Observing, reporting, and documenting a patient and the care provided
- Maintenance of a clean, safe, and healthy environment
- Basic infection control procedures
- Basic nutrition and fluid intake which includes food preparation techniques
- Reading and recording pain, temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure
- Basic elements of body functioning and changes in the body function that must be reported to a supervisor
- Recognizing emergencies and knowledge of emergency procedures
- The physical, emotional, and developmental needs of a patient and ways to work with people while respecting them, their privacy, and property
- Appropriate and safe techniques in personal hygiene and grooming including bed and shower bath
- Shampooing in the tub or bed
- Nail and skin care
