California Medication Regulations: An Overview Info:
This course provides and overview of the laws and regulations enforced by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division related to medication in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly. This course is designed for all staff persons including administrators and direct care staff.
By the end of the course the participant will be able to: briefly describe the training requirements for unlicensed direct care staff to be allowed to assist residents with medications; identify what a trained unlicensed direct care staff is allowed to do or may not do when assisting residents with medications; explain what is required for physician's orders of prescription, PRN (as needed), or over-the-counter medications; distinguish the three different circumstances that PRN medications may be given to a resident; describe how centrally stored medications should be logged and stored; explain California regulations on the preparing and passing of medications.
