  1. 40-Hour California RCFE Orientation Training Kit

    New California laws have expanded the training requirements for direct care staff working in a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE). Effective January 1, 2016. Assembly Bill 1570 and Senate Bill 911, both passed in 2014, have expanded the orientation training requirement to a total of 40 hours and the annual continuing education requirement to 20 hours.

  2. HIV/AIDS Training For The Care Provider

    This purpose of this course is to familiarize the learner with relevant information about HIV and AIDS. Demographic, geographic, and incident rate data is presented. The course engages the learner in information on HIV/AIDS clinical signs, symptoms, modes of transmission, risk factors, prevention, and screening and diagnosis. Common HIV medical complications are reviewed. The learner considers how the HIV virus duplicates and the general classes of drugs that target HIV replication. Ways to minimize accidental occupational exposure are presented. The course engages learners in gaining an understanding of the psychosocial challenges of people with HIV/AIDS across the trajectory of illness and provides information about HIV/AIDS and end-of-life care.

  3. Professional Boundaries

    The purpose of this course is to familiarize the learner with information about professional boundary issues. Professional boundaries provide a framework for professionals to establish safe and effective helping relationships. Boundaries promote trust and safeguard the client’s and family’s needs as the focus of concern. Many professional organizations provide ethical principles and standards that assist professionals in establishing and maintaining ethical conduct, However, situations may arise when a professional crosses or violates boundaries. These boundary transgressions occur along a continuum and may result in harm to the client or family. Case scenarios will be used to illustrate boundary transgressions and to recognize the appropriate role of the professional. Throughout the course, ethics and standards will be explained to guide the learner to an understanding of how to apply these kinds of tools to decision-making. Finally, the course will conclude with a brief discussion of organizational responsibilities for ethical practice.

  4. Nursing Home Rules and Regulations

    The purpose of this course is to help senior care professionals understand the most common and pressing legal issues that may arise when caring for the elderly. This course broadly covers areas of nursing home laws and regulations — including the Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987 and the Affordable Care Act — that apply primarily to nursing homes and other facilities that care for the elderly.
