20 & 20 Administrator Recertification & Continuing Education (CEU) Course Topics
20 & 20 Topic A - 10 CEUs
AM Class - Regulation Compliance in Today's California
(RCFE, ARF, NHA, RN, LVN, CNA, MFCC, and LCSW)
One of the major responsibilities of administrators in Adult Residential Facilities and Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly is to be in compliance with regulations and laws designed to protect the health and safety of residents. Recent legislation, updates, and clarifications released from the Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) will be presented. One way to ensure compliance with regulations at all times is for administrators to perform on-going self-assessments within their facilities. Major categories for self-assessment are reviewed with emphasis on the areas in each that are most challenging and are the source of frequent CCLD citations. In addition, key Cal/OSHA requirements will be discussed to help Administrators be in compliance with workplace safety issues.
PM Class - Business Side of Caring
(RCFE, ARF, NHA, RN, LVN, CNA, MFCC, and LCSW)
Just ask any Administrator or staff person in an Assisted Living/Residential Care Community what the favorite part of their job is and their response is most often "caring for the residents." While this is a important part, the caring business also needs to be provided in a fiscally responsible manner, or the business will not be profitable. Also, a Community's staff are often the critical interface between the administration and the residents that can either support or undermine the Administrator's efforts. This course discusses appropriate philosophical models of care and applies them to six major areas of Administrator responsibilities.
20 & 20 Topic B - 10 CEUs
AM Class - Utilizing Outside Resources: Hospice, Home Care, and More
(RCFE, ARF, NHA, RN, LVN, CNA, MFCC, and LCSW)
Many residents living in residential care settings will wish to use outside vendors and service providers. Staff providing care should be familiar with the use of these services while maintaining compliance with Title 22 regulations. This course will discuss various types of vendors and services ranging from medical equipment and services, private duty aides, home health care, and hospice services, and how to coordinate care to promote resident well-being.
PM Class - Infection Control Update
(RCFE, ARF, NHA, RN, LVN, CNA, MFCC, and LCSW)
Infection control is a concern for all assisted living and residential care administrators and staff. Several common infections will be discussed including: methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), Norovirus, Clostridium Difficile, salmonella, and hepatitis. Standard precautions, vaccines, and other recommendations to prevent the spread of infection are explained. Case studies are presented throughout this course to allow participants to apply the knowledge and discuss the actions that should be taken when an infectious condition affects one or more residents in the Community.
20 & 20 Topic C - 10 CEUs
AM Class - Maximizing Resident and Family Satisfaction
(RCFE, ARF, NHA, RN, LVN, CNA, MFCC, and LCSW)
Successful Communities are built around satisfied residents and families. Setting expectations often begins before personal contact with your marketing materials and website content. Personal communication prior to move in should set realistic expectations that can be met or exceeded. Understand the needs and stresses of residents and families at time of placement. Customer service essentials will be discussed including how to conduct and use customer service surveys. Learn how to deal with difficult families and respond to all types of behavior.
PM Class - Train-the-Trainer: Making the Most of Staff Training
(RCFE, ARF, NHA, RN, LVN, CNA, MFCC, and LCSW)
This course is designed to help administrators plan and select appropriate training for staff. Title 22 regulations and CCLD updates regarding training will be reviewed. Training formats, learning styles, needs of adult learners, and reinforcement schedules will be discussed. Participants will work with Bloom's Taxonomy to gain a deeper understanding of the learning steps and process. Participants will have an opportunity to develop appropriate training goals, measurable objectives, and evaluation methods suitable for staff training.
20 & 20 Topic D - 10 CEUs
AM Class - Looking Beyond Alzheimer's: Understanding the Other Dementias
(RCFE, ARF, NHA, RN, LVN, CNA, MFCC, and LCSW)
Dementia is a general term for memory loss and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 50 to 80 percent of dementia cases. This course will discuss the diseases and conditions other than Alzheimer's disease that cause dementia including vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, injury, illness, medication side effects, and others.
PM Class - Pro-Active Behavioral Interventions
(RCFE, ARF, NHA, RN, LVN, CNA, MFCC, and LCSW)
Successfully managing behavioral issues is one of the most challenging aspects of caring for persons with cognitive impairment, dementia, and mental illness. This course is designed to help you choose the best ways to provide proactive behavioral interventions, including responding to escalating behaviors exhibited by residents and others. The application of behavioral interventions for residents with dementia is discussed throughout this course. Learn how to identify triggers, notice early signs of agitation, and implement appropriate strategies to prevent a resident from escalating.
